FourSquare - Social Media Marketing By Location
In an article in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal - “Services Combine Social Media, Marketing” some interesting points are made (especially about Foursquare - which is marketing using social media and location).

Mobile phone users download app’s from their favorite merchants on the the FourSquare website. Using GPS technology, FourSquare gives the user the opportunity to gain special coupons sent to their mobile phone while in the vicinity and to post with ultra-ease (via Facebook or Twitter) their experience or simply to state where they are at any given moment.
We’ve been tweeting about developments in this relatively new application on Twitter (DiscoverTN) and sharing in workshops about companies within multifamily (and other sectors) that are using this service.
For example, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is using it - check out the image to the rig
ht - and note the info invite for specific locations on the rail.
We see a lot of potential with the service. Multifamily operators who are cutting edge in their marketing are adopting this emerging platform, including (Detroit-based) Urbane Apts and UDR.
Anyone want to weigh in on pluses or minuses related to using this new outlet?
